Wang Genxing (born September 1935 in Shanghai, originally from Wuxi, Jiangsu) was a nationally recognized senior technician in erhu craftsmanship and a representative inheritor of the "Shanghai Traditional Musical Instrument Making Technique" included in Shanghai's intangible cultural heritage list . He began learning instrument making in 1950 and later joined the Shanghai National Musical Instrument Factory, where he was involved in producing high-end stringed instruments. He was known for his exceptional ability to select and match materials—particularly snake skin and wood—to achieve the ideal "erhu flavor," and his instruments are celebrated for their mellow, resonant tone and typical southern-school style . Many renowned erhu players, including Min Huifen and Wu Zhimin, used instruments made by Wang Genxing in national competitions. He passed away in December 2014.
